What is Callbreak?

OpenBet describes OmniLogic as “the partner of choice for lotteries worldwide”.

Nikos Konstakis (pictured above), president of OpenBet, described the acquisition as “a natural extension” of the company’s ongoing strategy to serve operators in the most regulated and demanding markets. 

He emphasised lotteries were a pivotal focus area for future growth, saying they “remain the core focus of our growth strategy, and OmniLogic has built a strong reputation in this sector through long‑standing customer partnerships and a deep understanding of their requirements”.

What is Callbreak?

Once the deal is completed, 80% of its EBITDA is expected to come from those two markets.

According to the deal investor deck, the combined group expects online betting and gaming to be its largest vertical, as it accounted for 48% of the group’s combined pro forma adjusted EBITDA in H1.

Distributed gaming followed at 27%, then casinos at 25%.

Under Section 106 of New Zealand’s Gambling Act 2003, a class 4 licence holder, also known as a “corporate society” by the regulator, “must apply or distribute the net proceeds from class 4 gambling only to or for an authorised purpose specified in the corporate society’s licence”.

The DIA worked directly with class 4 gambling operators (commonly known as pokies trusts), and discovered ‘widespread issues’ such as cases where money that should have been available for community grants was instead spent on society expenses, such as the purchase of additional gaming machines.

Vicki Scott, the DIA’s director of gambling, said the investigation had delivered significant results, while stressing that work to improve compliance and ensure communities received their share of gambling proceeds would continue.
